How time flies!

It has been a while since I've updated this site as things are so busy here and time does definitely fly when you're having fun!! The wedding season is fully underway and we are pretty much full now for the next couple of months.

As I have mentioned in earlier posts, it is so nice to recieve pictures of our bride and grooms cutting the cake and we were so pleased to receive this picture of the happy couple. Most Sugar Lily cakes are decorated with sugar flowers and models however, on this occasion the bride chose to include silk gebera in the cake design to match the table decorations being used at the venue. The delicate piped hearts on each tier added a definite air of romance to this cake design.

As cookies favours become more and more popular, so do requests for bespoke designs. These land rover cookies were designed for a groom to depict his hobbies. The groom sent through a landrover design and from this 45 cookies were created. The bride opted for shoe cookies with delicate scroll piping to depict her passion.

We are now pleased to be able to offer chocolate flavour cookies to the vanilla, lemon and ginger range.

Mmmmmm... Chocolate...

With chocolate wedding and celebration cakes becoming an increasingly popular choice, this weekend was one for chocolate cakes. The smell was divine - rich dark moist chocolate cakes, creamy chocolate fillings, pure chocolate coatings and chocolate decorations. A real chocoholics heaven.

It was a pleasure to create this chocolate wedding cake for Vicky and Karl. It took over 5kgs of chocolate to create the five tiers of this scrummy cake. A chocoholics dream!!!

On a smaller scale, this chocolate celebration cake was filled with chocolate orange cake and brushed with lashings of Cointreau liquer for an exrtra special mum!

Edible Image fun!

Well, having wanted our own for ages, we have finally got the equipment so we can create our own edible images from photographs and pictures to go on cakes!

This first cake was one created for Royal Mail who were celebrating 10 years of their centre being open. They had an original picture of the opening 10 years ago so it was a nice touch to be able to add an edible version to the cake design. At 20 inches x 10 inches x 3 inches, it was one hell of a cake!!!

This second cake was a wedding cake design that incorporated a black and white edible image - giving the cake a popular contemporary look.
We are so looking forward to creating more designs with edible images!!!

Fabulous, Fabulous, Fabulous Cake!!! . . .

. . . the kind words of one of our happy couples, Laura and Damien, whose wedding cake we created a few weeks ago. It is lovely to see pictures of our brides and grooms doing the traditional cutting of the cake and I am sure they won't mind me sharing this. Don't they just look stunning!
This cake is such a fun one to make despite taking ages to perfect all the detail, not least Elvis on the top! I am so glad Laura and Damien were pleased with it and wish them all the best for the future.

Some recent favourites . . .

I thought I'd share some of my favourite designs created recently. The candy stripe cake is just so fresh and summery I and absolutely love the bold colours.
The next cake was made for a dear friend of the family. Frank was 80 a few weeks ago and as he spent a large part of his life working for a local brewery, the beer barrel cake seemed really appropriate. Finally, this jungle themed cake was made for a little boy having his first birthday. The bold colours and cute animals made this cake a real pleasure to create.

What a busy February!

Well, since my first post things have been so busy here that I haven't been back for over a month! Not only have we been creating winter cakes but this time of year is also popular for consultations for wedding cakes. Key summer dates for this year are now booking up quickly and we have even started to take bookings for 2010!

We have also been busy creating new designs for 2009, showcased at the recent wedding fayres we have attended including the Worsley Marriot last Sunday. It was lovely to meet so many happy couples and their families and we were pleased to display the new Sugar Lily designs, including the new Choc Pots.

These individual pots are filled with chocolate cake (which can be drizzled with your favourite liquer), chocolate ganache or buttercream, and topped with your choice of design to perfectly co-ordinate with your wedding theme.

These contemporary choc pots are ideal to be served as a dessert or individual favours, and can be presented with or without a top tier cake - ideal for the more traditional cutting of the cake photos!

So Exciting and About Time . . .

HHhhhmmmmm . . . Not quite sure what I'm doing or whether this is working but hi there!!!

I've wanted to start a blog for such a long time but unfortunately I am not very good when it comes to IT and stuff - I do cakes, what I don't do is computers!!!

Well, providing I can get this to work, what a great way to give a more personal insight into the world of Sugar Lily Cakes. I'm really looking forward to sharing my experiences of all things cake (and more).

And, what could be more of a great way to start my blog than a cake made for a client who was about to accept her boyfriend's proposal!

Travelling all the way to Manchester from South Wales, my client brought her avid Man U supporter boyfriend to be wined and dined and presented with a Sugar Lily creation before saying "yes"!

It was a real pleaseure to make this cake for the happy couple. Good luck to them both for the future.

Hopefully this first post will be a success and I can look forward to many more happy hours on here!!!
